4. ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, KOCHI
If compared with other historic churches in India, this one falls well short of being an architectural marvel but still manages to attract visitors from around the world, especially Portugal. The historical significance of this particular church lies in the very fact that it houses the burial spot of the celebrated Portuguese explorer and navigator, Vasco da Gama. Albeit the corpse was taken back to his native place by his son much later, the spot is preserved till date. Localities call it ‘Vasco da Gama Church’.
