The 43-day-long journey to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath was flagged off on Thursday (30th June 2022) by the Deputy Commissioner, Piyush Singla. The inaugural yatra witnessed a batch of 2750 pilgrims leaving the Nunwan base camp in the Pahalgam district of Anantnag.
Located at the height of 3880 meters above sea level, the cave shrine houses the shivling naturally formed with ice. There are two routes – the Nunwan base camp (48 km) and Baltal base camp (14 km).
