Shimla Heritage Sightseeing Itinerary

Museum Hopping

Shimla’s history is as rich as its natural beauty. To know about it, your first attraction should be the Viceregal Lodge.

This is the most iconic building in Shimla. This was the residence of the British Viceroys of India. The place is now under Indian institute of Advance Study. Guided tours are allowed for the tourists and access is limited to certain areas inside the castle.

Time duration: 1 – 1.5 hours

After this, you head towards the Himachal State Museum.

1 km from the Viceregal Lodge, Himachal State Museum showcases the history of the state. It has collection of coins, paintings and other artefacts that were used by the rulers of the state. The building of the museum was the residence for British officials.

Time duration: 1.5 – 2 hours

You can have your lunch at the nearby dhabas and restaurants.

The final museum of will be Annadale Heritage Museum.

The museum is also known as the Army Museum. The museum is housed under a cottage and doesn’t take much time to explore. The location of the museum is what takes your breath away. The Golf Course with lush green field amidst the deodar trees is the primary attraction.

Heart of Shimla

05:00 PM – 08:00 PM

After exploring the museums, the time will be perfect to explore The Ridge, the heart of Shimla.

The Ridge is the place where you will find most of the tourists. This is cultural hub of the town and a shopper’s paradise. You can get a lot of stuff to get back home. From woollen clothes, to apples to even some Tibetan Flags. There are also cultural activities which can be explored at the Gaiety Theatre.

Lakkar Bazar is the famous for street shopping where you find unique pieces of woodwork.

The day ends here and you head back to your hotel.
